The best coffee maker for most home coffee bars is a programmable 12-cup drip coffee maker like the Ninja CE251, because it brews a full pot or a small batch, stands 14.6 inches tall, and costs less than most single-serve machines. If each person in your house wants a different cup, a single-serve brewer like the Keurig K-Elite or a pot-and-pod combo like the Ninja DualBrew Pro fits better.
I chose these 11 coffee makers by drink habit and counter size, using Amazon listings, maker specs and expert roundups from Wirecutter, Food & Wine and others. These are research-based picks; I haven’t tested them in my kitchen. Every pick had at least a 4.3-star rating on Amazon from 500+ ratings when I checked on October 25, 2026.

Which coffee maker type fits your coffee bar: drip, single-serve or espresso?
Drip coffee makers fit homes that drink a pot a day, single-serve brewers fit homes where people want different cups at different times, and espresso machines fit latte and cappuccino drinkers. Combo machines cover two habits on one footprint.
| Type | Brews | Counter space | Best for | Skip it if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Drip coffee maker | 5 to 14 cups per pot | 8 to 12 in wide | One or more pots a day | You drink one cup and pour the rest out |
| Single-serve pod brewer | 1 cup, 4 to 12 oz | 9 to 10 in wide | Different drinks, different times | You mind the cost per pod |
| Pot + pod combo | A carafe or 1 cup | About 11.4 in wide | Mixed households | Your counter is under 24 in |
| Espresso + coffee combo | Espresso, coffee, cold brew | About 12.5 in wide | Lattes and drip from one machine | You only drink drip |
| Cold brew maker | 1 qt concentrate | Fridge shelf | Iced coffee fans | You want hot coffee fast |
A coffee bar adds one more filter: height with the lid open. The standard gap between a counter and upper cabinets is 18 inches. Wirecutter notes that the OXO Brew 9-Cup is 17.2 inches tall and needs another 5 inches to open its lids, so measure before you buy.
What is the best drip coffee maker?
The best drip coffee maker for most coffee bars is the Ninja CE251, a 12-cup programmable brewer with a 70 oz removable reservoir that Wirecutter names its budget pick and Food & Wine calls its best value. The expert favorite I didn’t box is the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select, a 10-cup (40 oz) brewer with a 5-year warranty that Food & Wine names its best drip coffee maker and Wirecutter’s tasters rated highest. Its Amazon listings sat at 4.2 stars when I checked, under my 4.3 cutoff, so I list it here as an option rather than a pick.

The best combo depends on what you combine: the Ninja DualBrew Pro pairs a 12-cup carafe with K-Cup pods, and the Ninja Luxe Café Pro pairs real espresso with drip-style coffee and a built-in burr grinder. Both replace two machines on one footprint.

Grind-and-brew and fully automatic machines
A grind-and-brew coffee maker grinds whole beans into the filter right before brewing; a fully automatic (super-automatic) espresso machine grinds, tamps and brews espresso at one button. The ones I checked on Amazon, including the Breville Grind Control and Philips 3200 LatteGo, rated under 4.3 stars, so I didn’t box them. A separate burr grinder next to a drip maker gives you the same fresh grind; see my coffee grinder guide. For portafilter machines, my best espresso machines for home guide compares 10 picks.

The best coffee maker for iced coffee and cold brew is the Ninja Hot & Iced XL CM371, which brews over ice without watering it down and makes cold brew in as little as 10 minutes, according to Ninja. For classic slow cold brew, a 1-quart Takeya pitcher in the fridge does the job overnight.

Which coffee maker brands are worth buying?
The coffee maker brands worth buying for a home coffee bar are Ninja, BUNN, Cuisinart, Keurig, Nespresso and Technivorm Moccamaster, each strong in one type. Warranty length is the clearest difference: BUNN and Cuisinart give 3 years on these models, Moccamaster gives 5, and Ninja gives 1 on the DualBrew Pro.
| Brand | Known for | Machines in this guide |
|---|---|---|
| Ninja | Feature-heavy drip, combo and espresso machines | CE251, CM371, DualBrew Pro, Luxe Café Pro |
| BUNN | Fast brewing from a hot-water tank; 3-year warranty | BT Speed Brew |
| Cuisinart | Large-capacity programmable drip | DCC-3200 |
| Keurig | K-Cup single-serve | K-Elite |
| Nespresso | Capsule espresso and coffee | Vertuo Pop+ |

Breville makes espresso machines and premium drip brewers; its Bambino Plus is in my best espresso machines for home guide, and my Breville guide covers the full lineup.
How do you choose a coffee maker for your coffee bar?
Choose a coffee maker by how many cups you drink at once, the space you have (width, depth and lid-open height), the carafe you want, and the cost per cup. Measure first; most returns come from machines that don’t fit.
Size and clearance
- Width: the machine plus 6 inches for a mug, plus 5 inches if a grinder sits beside it.
- Depth: a standard counter is 25 inches deep; leave 2 inches behind the machine for the cord.
- Height: measure with the lid or handle open. The Keurig K-Elite is 16.5 inches tall; the Mr. Coffee is 7.2.
My coffee bar cabinet guide runs this math for real cabinets, and the DIY coffee bar guide covers building a top that fits.
Carafe: glass or thermal
A glass carafe sits on a warming plate that keeps coffee hot but slowly makes it bitter; most plates shut off after 2 to 4 hours. A thermal carafe keeps coffee hot with no plate, and it’s the better choice if a pot sits out for a party.
Power
A coffee maker draws 650 to 1,650 watts in this guide, and a 15-amp, 120-volt circuit carries about 1,800 watts. Plug the coffee maker straight into a wall outlet, and don’t run it at the same time as a kettle on the same circuit.
Cost per cup
Cost per cup is the price of the coffee divided by the cups it makes. As an example with assumed prices: a $12 bag of ground coffee (12 oz) makes about 26 eight-ounce cups at the Specialty Coffee Association’s ratio of 55 grams per liter, or about $0.46 a cup. A $15 box of 24 pods costs about $0.63 a cup. Pods buy convenience, not savings.
Pour-over and French press need no machine at all; see my pour-over guide and French press guide if your coffee bar is short on outlets. For everything else that goes next to the machine, my coffee bar essentials list has the tools.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best coffee maker for home use?
For most homes, a programmable drip coffee maker such as the Ninja CE251: 12 cups, a 70 oz removable reservoir and a small-batch setting. Pick a Keurig K-Elite if each person wants one cup at a time, or the Ninja DualBrew Pro if your house wants both a pot and pods.
Are expensive coffee makers worth it?
Sometimes. Paying more buys a thermal carafe, a longer warranty or a built-in grinder, not always better-tasting coffee. Fresh beans and the right ratio change the cup more than the machine does, so a well-made budget drip maker plus a burr grinder often beats a pricier brewer used with stale pre-ground coffee.
Which coffee maker keeps coffee hot the longest?
A coffee maker with a vacuum-insulated thermal carafe, such as the BUNN BT Speed Brew, keeps coffee hot without a warming plate; BUNN rates its carafe for 2+ hours at serving temperature. Glass carafes on hot plates stay hot longer but slowly cook the coffee, and most shut off after 2 to 4 hours.
Is a single-serve coffee maker cheaper than a drip coffee maker?
The machine can be, but the coffee usually isn't. Pods cost more per cup than ground coffee from a bag. A single-serve brewer saves money only if you'd otherwise brew a full pot and pour half of it out.
